FEATURED POSTS

Friends, Pearls and … Vampires

On one of the dark, windy, snowy and cold nights, Natalia and I were coming back from a black tie event and decided to visit our friends Vassily and Carlos.  Since I happened to have some of my new  toys in our trunk and was itching to put them to use and had access to 3 wonderful and mostly willing 🙂 models, that like me too much to just tell me to bug off, – we ended up having a little photo shoot :). So this post is to share some of the images and also pass on some of the first impressions on Elinchrom’s Ranger Quadra RX system and Deep Octa that I used for this shoot.  This is certainly not meant as a formal review so no specs here.

All that I want to say about the Quadra is that – I absolutely love it… It is amazing to have such quality and consistency in such a small and light package while also being able to mount all the standard studio modifiers. After only a couple of shoots I know that I will use it a lot more than I do my studio lights simply because of how easy it is to set up and the fact that I can use it in studio and on location.

The other new acquired toy is Elinchrom’s 39″ Deep Octa – and it is another love at first shoot :).  It is surpisingly versatile thanks to all the different ways it can be setup. For this shoot I used only the internal baffle which produces a really beautiful light that is more specular then a traditional softbox and with shadows somewhere in between the softbox and a beauty dish. It certainly works very well for producing a very dramatic directional light.  As you will see from the photos below, its fun to have friends who are artists, who do silly things on command and are not afraid of adding a little drama and glamour to everyday life!  Let me know what you think…and photographers, feel free to share your experiences with the Quadra and Deep Octa.
