Last Monday was our two-year wedding anniversary :). The day before Natalia and I celebrated in a very cool way, with a very special couple and their incredible family. Kate and Joe got married in Columbus, Ohio on September 19th and we were lucky enough to be a part of it.
A few weeks before our anniversary, Natalia and I were discussing what we would like to do this year. With our schedules, travel seemed out of the question and we wanted to celebrate more than just ourselves anyway. We wanted to show gratitude for how lucky we were to have a wedding of our dreams. A wedding made possible only thanks to support and generosity of our friends. We really wanted to do something that would give back to the world at least a little of what we received. So, we naturally thought of the one thing we could give, that we didn’t have ourselves on our wedding day. Photos! One of Natalia’s biggest regrets has always been not hiring a photographer that day, so she suggested that we post a giveaway for anyone having their ceremony the weekend of September 18th and 19th, figuring that not a lot of people would be getting married on Monday, September 20th. And then we thought that since it was such a last minute idea, not a lot of people would know about our giveaway.
This is where the story gets better! With the help and generosity of the wonderful Meg and her blog, A Practical Wedding we were able to reach out to a larger bridal community, as she did a beautiful post about our giveaway on her blog and although there were criteria about the wedding having to be local to be eligible, when Judy contacted us on behalf of her younger sister we couldn’t resist wanting to make it work for Kate and Joe. We were very touched by Judy’s eloquence and her love for her younger sister. And once we met the whole family it became apparent that this love is a rule and not an exception in this large and growing clan 🙂 – both Judy and her brother Justin are engaged to be married next year.
Kate and Joe are an amazing young couple. It is rare in this day and age to find two people who, at the age of 20 and 22, are so mature and sure in their love that they would be ready to make a life long commitment. It was a true pleasure to meet them and to visit their family home – which is so reflective of everyone’s commitment, labor and love. And there was a really cool bar too – grandpa’s bar was the “real deal” – with bar stools, tables, big sports TV and witty attitude :).
Kate and Joe, we hope you are having a fantastic honeymoon (go visit Sanibel Island!) and though you have heard us say this before – we really couldn’t have imagined nicer people and family to spend our anniversary weekend with! And … Judy definitely takes the “greatest big sister” prize for flying us out to Ohio.
