A few weeks ago, Natalia celebrated her birthday in a really cool way… she photographed the wedding of Rebecca and Drew and had a great time documenting their day and partying alongside them and their guests. Our good friend, Maryam assisted and second shot with Natalia. I think its only fair from here on in to give my wife the blogging rights for a wedding she photographed along with a selection of her favorite photos :).
Rebecca & Drew had the quintessential “Cool” New York City wedding, and I was so thrilled that we had the time and opportunity to incorporate that into the photos and the flow of the day. Having lived in New York for over 20 years, I am still amazed by this city and the never ending abundance of experiences it presents. From the initial cab ride to the St. Marks Church on the Bowery, to the vintage cab that whisked these two away at the end of the day, this will certainly be one of the most memorable weddings and definitely…, birthdays I will ever have!
All the ceremony music was played and sung by this beautiful lady, Sydney Shepherd, a close friend of Rebecca & Drew, who just released her first digital album, “Gypsy Life” so go check her out :)!
Let’s talk about how much these guys were my kinda people 😉 – I don’t know if all people in the South are this much fun, but Rebecca’s Southern Posse along with Drew’s Coolest Crew ever, were up for anything. Of course, they could have just indulged me and put up with my wacky requests because I was the birthday girl 😉 … Either way – we had a blast!!!
We had to take a little New York City Subway detour…
Throughout the day, New Yorkers didn’t disappoint with their enthusiasm and big congratulations 😉
Rebecca & Drew are both teachers, so they couldn’t have picked a better location for their day then the Housing Works Bookstore (I LOVED the details too… check out those library catalog seating cards :)). Housing Works is a charity organization that helps people with AIDS/HIV and the fact that these two chose a venue that is not only beautiful and a great reflection of who they are, but also helps save lives says a lot about who Rebecca & Drew are, and what wonderful things are in store for them in their life together!
When I saw Rebecca twirl in her dress early in the day, I knew that this is a girl that loves to dance…
I don’t think I have ever met a bride before that laughed more openly and honestly then Rebecca did … Rebecca – I couldn’t take my eyes off of you all day! You looked gorgeous and you were having SO much fun that it was impossible not to smile with you the whole time.
This was officially … THE BEST FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE EVER!!!!!!! These two ROCKED that dance floor.
OK.. In the next 3 photos, we are playing NAME THAT TUNE ;)… (Hint: the 2nd and 3rd photo are the same song). Let’s see who can get it right!
Rebecca & Drew – I couldn’t have asked for better people to spend my birthday with and I am so happy and honored that I was able to photograph your wedding! From our initial meeting at the Housing Works Bookstore, I just knew that this was going to be a fantastic experience and that I would love getting to know you guys. In fact, if you remember I didn’t tell you about my birthday initially, in fear that you wouldn’t want me to “work” on that day. As you can probably tell by now, photographing you two doesn’t feel like work at all and I would want to do it on any day of the year ;). I really hope these photos will allow you to relive the love you have for each other, your family & friends and … a thirst for life …all of which, was so present on that day! Thank you again so much and please stay in touch 🙂 !!!
